Bemidji baseball team's Sagedahl wood bat Invitational this weekend

Baseball under the lights is on tap today as the Bemidji High School nine hosts the 13th annual Des Sagedahl Wooden Bat Tournament.

Joining the Lumberjacks in the four-team round-robin event will be Roseau, Duluth East and Grand Forks Red River.

The tournament begins at 5 p.m. today when Roseau will tangle with Duluth East. At 7 p.m. Bemidji will battle Red River.

Saturday's schedule sees Red River facing Roseau at 10 a.m., Bemidji tangling with Duluth East at noon, Red River squaring off with Duluth East at 2 p.m. and Bemidji playing Roseau at 4 p.m.

All of the start times are tentative.

A year ago Duluth East posted a 3-0 record while Fargo North was 2-1, Bemidji 1-2 and Red River 0-3.

"The Sagedahl tournament is one of the highlights of our season," said BHS coach Mike Fogelson. "It's nice to be at home this weekend and it's especially nice to have the tournament honor Des Sagedahl and to have his family members on hand to throw out the first pitch."

Sagedahl was Bemidji's head baseball coach from 1974 to 1993.

Unfortunately, it appears that the weather may not cooperate.

Today's forecast calls for temperatures in the low 70s but there also is a 50 percent of showers, especially in the late afternoon and evening.

On Saturday the chance of rain is 70 percent with temperatures expected to be in the high 60s.
