BHS boys tennis team loses to ranked Prowlers

Thief River Falls lived up to its No. 5 billing in the Class A boys tennis ranks Thursday as the Prowlers defeated Bemidji 7-0 in Thief River Falls.

"We took one on the chin but Thief River Falls is a very good team," said BHS coach Mark Fodness whose team dipped to 4-3.

"Thief River knows how to finish a game and that's what they did to us."

The Lumberjacks never threatened TRF as the home team won each match in straight sets. The closest Bemidji came were a pair of 6-2, 6-2 losses. Kyle Fodness and Adam Holter sustained one of those setbacks at first doubles and Bemidji's third doubles tandem of Tim Paulus and Zach Hewitt also lost 6-2, 6-2.

At second doubles Craig Lindseth and Jack Boyer fell 6-1, 6-1

In singles Levi Rickert lost 6-1, 6-2, Alex Hess and Noah Holter each tumbled 6-1, 6-1 and Austin Korczak dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision.

"We had some good points but good teams know how to close a match and Thief River did that," Fodness said. "This was a good measuring stick for us. Right now we are not at Thief River's level but getting there is what we want to work toward."

The Lumberjacks will continue moving in that direction this week as they are off until next Thursday's Northwest Quad in East Grand Forks.

"We have a clear understanding of what we need to work on and having a week off at this stage in the season will help," the coach said.
