Youth hockey report for Feb. 8

Bantam A

The Pepsi-VFW Bantam A went 2-1 this weekend, rebounding from a Friday night loss to Brainerd to beat Fergus Falls and Warroad Saturday and Sunday, all at home.

It lifted Bob Fitzgerald's Bantams to 23-9-2.

This weekend they host Warroad Friday at the BCA, then head to Moorhead to battle Wayzata Saturday and Moorhead and Fergus Falls Sunday.

The Wayzata game is a late addition to the schedule.

Bemidji and Brainerd had battled to a 2-2 tie at Brainerd earlier this year.

The visitors widened a 2-1 lead with three second-period goals and coasted to a 7-3 win.

Jake Leitner, Sam Bruestle and Parker Lucas had the Bemidji goals.

Leitner had two assists and Brett Isensee, Bruestle, Seth Neubeck, Ben Christopher and Tyler Geerdes one.

Heifort made 33 stops for Bemidji. Brainerd had 28.

Bemidji and Hibbing also had tied in their first meeting.

Saturday Bemidji scored twice in the third period to widen a 1-0 lead and win 3-1. Isensee, Brett Hartje and Mike Forseth had the goals.

Leitner, Tanner Boes, Tyler Schummer and Nick Swanson had assists.

Garret Atterberry made 24 stops. Hibbing had 20.

Fergus offered little opposition Sunday as Bemidji took a 4-0 lead after two periods and doubled that total in the third to win 8-1.

Leitner and Christopher scored twice and Forseth, Isensee, Boes and Zach Posner once.

Boes, Swanson, Isensee and Erik Fitzgerald had two assists and Forseth, Geerdes and Neubeck one.

Heifort rejected 14 shots for Bemidji. Fergus turned back 33.

Pee Wee A

The Coca Cola Pee Wee A tied Grand Rapids 3-3 Friday in a replay of a Jan. 28 postponement.

It left Neil Huewe's Pee Wees at 21-5-4.

They will host Roseau and Red Lake Falls Saturday and take on Warroad Sunday at the BCA in the final games before the district tournament at Thief River Falls. Bemidji is 8-1 in district play.

Bemidji took a 2-1 lead over the Rapids but saw the visitors score in the third period to knot the score. They skated through a scoreless overtime.

Alex Pollock, Josh Lusby and Brady Tatro had the Bemidji goals. Lusby, Tyler McNamara and Cody Gumeringer had assists.

Grant Tharaldson had 32 stops, Grand Rapids needed only 15.
