Bemidji HS girls hockey: Jacks fall to Grand Rapids/Greenway
The Bemidji girls hockey team outplayed and outshot another opponent Tuesday but, once again, the Lumberjacks were not rewarded for their efforts as they lost 2-0 at Grand Rapids-Greenway.
"Our team effort was tremendous," said BHS coach Matt Menne. "But we couldn't get any lucky bounces. We outplayed Grand Rapids but lost 2-0. Last Saturday we outplayed Sauk Rapids and lost 2-1 in overtime. It's been that kind of a season."
The home team scored late in the first period and early in the third on way to its win over the Jacks. Bailey Rasmussen notched the opening goal and Rachel Schulte tallied the insurance marker.
In between Bemidji owned an edge in shots and territorial play but the Lumberjacks just couldn't convert their chances.
"We spent quite of bit of time in the penalty box (BHS was called for 10 minor penalties) but I was impressed with our penalty kill and our offensive chances," Menne said. "Our problem is we are not burying those chances.
"Their goalie made two very nice saves but we continually were missing just wide on our tips and our shots."
Laura Thompson finished with 13 saves in the BHS net while the Jacks sent 17 shots at the Grand Rapids goalie.
Bemidji, 6-14-2, hosts Crookston 7 p.m. Thursday at Nymore Arena.
