Dome collapse affects Bemidji State baseball team

The collapse of the Metrodome's roof due to a December snowstorm affected the Minnesota Vikings season and other teams in the region who use the facility, including the Bemidji State baseball team.

BSU plays a number of spring games at the Metrodome each season, but are forced to relocate and reschedule those games this season because of ongoing repairs to the roof.

The Beavers were scheduled for eight games at the Metrotome between Feb. 16 and March 22.

The season opener against St. Cloud State Feb. 16-17 has been canceled and the Feb. 27-28 four-game series against Wayne State has been moved to the WSC campus.

The scheduled doubleheader against Minnesota State, Mankato on March 22 has been moved to Minnetonka High School and the first game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Due to the adjustments, the Beavers new season opener is March 8-13 at the 2011 RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational in Arizona.

In addition to the original tournament schedule, BSU will play nine-inning games with Southwestern College and Indiana Wesleyan on March 9 to make up for the lost St. Cloud State contests.

BSU closed the 2010 season with a 16-37 overall record and a 7-25 mark in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play to finish 11th in the final league standings. The Beavers open the invitational with Northwestern (Iowa) March 8.

The Metrodome field is closed through March for repairs. A full report on the damage and recommended replacement plan should be completed by the end of this month.
