Hockey Day is coming to Bemidji; 13th annual event set for winter 2019

Bemidji boys 4th, girls 6th at Little Falls ski meet

The Bemidji High School boys Nordic ski team finished fourth in Monday's 16-team Little Falls Invitational at Camp Ripley.

St. Cloud Tech took team honors with 464 points while the Lumberjacks were in the hunt with 440. In between were Anoka with 451 and Little Falls with 441.

Little Falls is considered among the favorites to win the section meet, so BHS coach Mark Walters was very pleased with how his team competed.

"The boys did super well," Walters said. "Finishing only one point behind Little Falls is fantastic."

Also considered among the section favorites is Brainerd, and the Warriors placed sixth with 415.

Monday's format called for a 5-kilometer classic race followed by a 5K skate. Jake Richards of Detroit Lakes was the individual winner with a time of 32:36.

The top Lumberjack was Tony Sagedahl, who completed the course in 35:59 and placed 11th. Completing Bemidji's top five were Adam Holter in 12th place (36:11), Kyle Sagedahl in 15th (36:14), Sam Dwyer in 26th (38:26) and Eli Rassler in 39th (40:00).

The boys meet featured 107 participants.

In the varsity girls race, the Lumberjacks placed sixth with 345 points. Little Falls took the team title with 435 and Brainerd was fourth with 400.

Bemidji's top individual performance was the sixth-place finish of Bailey Drewes in 40:42. Alicia Papke-Larson was 28th (46:19), Laura Yourd 42nd (47:59), Kim Truedson 43rd (48:08) and Summer Johnson 64th (50:26).

A total of 110 girls raced in the varsity meet.

In Monday's junior varsity races Bemidji claimed the individual titles in both events. Matt Chatterton won the boys JV race with a time of 11:03 over the 3.5-km course while Morgan Sagedahl took the girls race in 12:02.

BHS is off until Saturday when it hosts a pursuit race at Buena Vista.
