Boys hockey posts 9-1 victory at River Lakes

Bemidji fired 70 shots on goal Saturday night and blitzed River Lakes 9-1 in high school boys hockey at Richmond.

The Lumberjacks scored five times in the first period to take a 5-1 lead and coasted to their 11th win against one loss and one tie. They host Crookston Tuesday night at Nymore Arena.

Jordan Heller led the Jacks with three goals. John Forseth had two goals, Max Hazelton added a pair of goals and two assists, and Steven Heller had a goal and three assists.

"We're a more talented team than River Lakes, and we just kept pounding and pounding," said Bemidji coach Wade Chiodo. "I told the guys before the game that this was a game we need to win and expect to win, but anything can happen."

The Lumberjacks fored 27 shots at River Lakes goaltender Andrew Groseclose in the first period, 22 in the second and 21 in the third.

Bemidji goalie Ben Schramm turned away eight of the nine shots he faced.

The Jacks scored three times in four power-play opportunities.

"That's one area we definitely needed to improve on this season," Chiodo said, "so it was nice to see. Our talent obviously came out tonight."
