Bemidji 1-0-1 after two rounds of Paul Bunyan Pee Wee Hockey Tournament

Defending champion Bemidji opened its Paul Bunyan International tournament title with an 8-0 victory over Fort Frances Friday at The Sanford Center. In Friday's evening session Bemidji tied Devils Lake 3-3.

Both teams are 1-0-1 heading into their final North Division pool-play games. Bemidji will tangle with Cloquet (0-2) 8:30 a.m. today at Nymore while Devils Lake will play Fort Frances (1-1) at 10:15 a.m. at the Community Arena.

Rocky Copiskey scored twice in the opening period and Jack Johnson added a shorthanded goal. Brady Tatro and Jaret Lalli connected in the second period and Tatro, Mitch Webb and Alex Pollock scored in the third.

Pollock and Webb each had two assists while Nick Leitner, Johnson, Cody Gumeringer, Copiskey, Tyler McNamara, Lalli and Tanner Hammitt had one.

Grant Tharaldson needed only 10 saves to post the shutout.

Other first-round winners Friday were Armstrong Cooper, Keewenaw, Grand Forks, Andover, St. Cloud and Crookston.
