Funding for government lapses as short-term spending bill stalls in the Senate

Bemidji HS wrestlers seventh at Frazee Tournament

The Bemidji wrestling team overpowered Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale 58-21 and captured seventh place in Saturday's eight-team tournament in Frazee.

BHS opened the day with a 49-10 loss to Minneota which entered the invitational ranked third in the state Class A poll.

The Lumberjacks then dropped a 50-28 decision to Border West but fared much better in the seventh-place match, winning 10 individual matches, including four by forfeit.

Brian Maas started the Jacks on their way to victory when he pinned Marshall Willis in 2:13 in the 112-pound match. Gary Molash followed with a 12-8 victory at 119 and Logan Crosby pinned Dan Houchin in 3:56.

Jake Crosby continued Bemidji's success at 130 when he pinned Kasey Horn in 23 seconds.

Ryle Masterson was awarded a forfeit victory at 135 and, after Cody Thoring was pinned at 140, the Lumberjacks iced the team victory with five consecutive wins.

Josh Dreyer was a forfeit winner at 145 along with Dustin Greenman at 160 and Colton Doty at 171. Kody Craft posted a pin at 152 and Brenden Fredricksen duplicated the feat at 189.

In Saturday's opener against Minneota the Jacks managed three individual wins. Brian Maas captured a decision win at 112, Logan Crosby had a major decision at 125 and Johnson was a 13-9 winner at 145.

Maas also won against his Border West foe as he pinned his opponent in 2:55. Jake Crosby also won by pin at 135 as did Fredricksen at 189 and Nick Maggert at 215. Bemidji's other individual triumph was Greenman's 11-2 decision at 152.

The Lumberjacks are off until Dec. 29-30 when they participate in the West Fargo Invitational.
