Alumni, parents and fans had plenty to cheer about Friday night as the Bemidji wrestling team dismantled Deer River 51-18 at the BHS gym.

A year ago the Lumberjacks posted a 6-18 record and Bemidji coach Rance Bahr began this season believing that his team could double that victory total.

Friday's performance gave evidence that the Jacks might be able to reach the coach's hoped-for victory total.

After spotting Deer River a 6-0 lead at 103 BHS took complete control with five consecutive wins. Brian Maas began the streak with a pin of Spencer Tibbetts at 112 and, after Gary Molash was awarded a forfeit win at 119, Logan Crosby, Jake Crosby and Craig Maas each posted victories to up Bemidji's advantage to 27-6.

Logan Crosby collected a pin at the 5:30 mark and Jake Crosby decisioned Bryce Ortloff 9-4. Maas capped the run with a pin late in the second period.

After Cody Thoring was decisioned 3-0 the Jacks iced the team win with five consecutive victories.

Kade Johnson posted a first-period fall and Kodi Craft won by pin at 5:34. Colton Doty used a takedown at the buzzer to win 6-5 and Tyler Molitor dominated Dillon Entenmann with a pin at 1:49.

The run climaxed when Logan Knutson nipped Rick Gramke 7-5 in overtime at 189.

"We accomplished what we wanted to accomplish as far as working out the cobwebs," said BHS coach Rance Bahr. "There were some very close matches but we focus on scoring points at the end of periods and we did that Friday."
