Beavers to host Vikings in NSIC soccer playoffs

The Bemidji State soccer team will open the NSIC playoffs at home 1 p.m. Wednesday against Augustana.

BSU earned the home field for the initial round of the league playoffs by finishing third in the conference standings. Augustana was given the sixth seed.

The Beavers ended 9-3-1 after stopping Minnesota State Mankato 1-0 Sunday in Mankato. Bri Scanlan scored the game's only goal as she connected in the 50th minute. BSU netminder Samantha Ross stopped 12 shots in tossing the shutout.

Overall Bemidji State compiled a 13-3-1 record and set a school record for victories in a season. The nine NSIC wins tied a school standard.

During the regular season the Beavers posted a 1-0 victory at Augustana on Oct. 17.

BSU's offense is led by Ashlee Ellefsen, who has seven goals, six assists and 20 points.
