BSU volleyball team falls; soccer team battles to 1-1 tie

The Bemidji State University volleyball team dropped a 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 match Saturday at Northern State.

BSU (11-13, 5-11 NSIC) led the first game 19-16 before the Wolves (14-11, 6-10) scored nine of the next 11 points to take the victory.

Nicole Olson had 10 kills while Bethany Thompson and Nicole Solum each contributed seven. Jessi-Beth McCannell dished 30 assists.

Brie Groskreutz finished with 17 digs and Hannah Eilers 10. Olson added one solo block and three block assists.

The BSU soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Southwest Minnesota State Saturday afternoon. The tie is the first for BSU on the season.

Neither team scored in the first half but the Mustangs connected on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.

Bemidji State answered four minutes later when Bri Scanlan scored with help from Ashlee Ellefsen. The assist was Ellefsen's 101st in her career.

The 1-1 tie continued through the two overtime periods.
