Upper Iowa beats Beavers in soccer

After defeating a nationally ranked Winona State a day earlier, the Bemidji State women's soccer team came up short in Sunday's home game against Upper Iowa, falling 3-2 in overtime.

The Peacocks snapped BSU's six-game winning streak, scoring a goal in the eighth minute of overtime.

Jenny Stromberg gave Bemidji State a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute, but Upper Iowa tied the game in the 41st minute off a corner kick.

Just 12 minutes into the second half, Jamie Ford scored to give BSU a 2-1 lead. However, the Peacocks answered 14 seconds later to tie the game.

In the overtime period, Ford had a chance to end the game as she received a cross in front of the Upper Iowa goal, but placed the ball just wide of the net. On the ensuing goal kick the Peacocks were able to get the ball downfield and rifle a hard shot on net from 25 yards out.

The shot was mishandled by BSU keeper Samantha Ross and found its way to the back of the net to give the Peacocks the victory.

Bemidji State will play next weekend, traveling to Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday and to St. Cloud State on Sunday.
