Zach Solheim went the distance on a four-hitter and added a pair of extra-base hits to lead Bemidji past Little Falls 7-1 in American Legion baseball Monday night at the BSU Field.

The second game of a scheduled double header was called off after a downpour left the field unplayable.

The victory was especially sweet for Bemidji, which dropped a pair of games at Little Falls last week. Bemidji improved to 5-3 on the season.

"Zach did a nice job for us tonight," said Bemidji Coach Mike Fogelson. "He pounded the strike zone and also had a couple of nice hits. We got some runs early, and that's a key for us."

Bemidji went with a makeshift lineup around the infield after losing standout shortstop Tyler Follis, whobroke his thumb over the weekend and is out for the season.

Jeremiah Graves moved from second base to shortstop and Booster Russ took over at second.

"Tyler was our best player,"?Fogelson said. "It was nice for our guys to respond today after losing him."

Bemidji scored four times in the first inning on a two-run single by Mason Bellew, an RBI single by Tyler Tatro and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Stevens.

After Little Falls scored its only run off Solheim in the top of the third, Bemidji got it right back in the bottom of the frame when Solheim hit a two-out triple and later scored on the back end of a double steal.

Bemidji made it 7-1 in the fifth when Solheim doubled in a run and Stevens plated another with a single.

Matt Heitala also had two hits for the home team.

Solheim finished with five strikeouts and only walked one.

"After we lost two to Little Falls last week, it was nice to bounce back and get the win," said Fogelson. "Our defense was solid, especially around the infield. The guys came through and played a very good game."
