High School golf: Panthers qualify for sections

The Cass Lake-Bena boys golf team finished second in the 8A South Sub-Section tournament Monday at Longbow and qualified for the Section 8A meet while the girls team was third.

Climax-Fisher captured the boys title and will also send its entire team to the Section 8A meet June 1 at the Bemidji Town & Country Club.

Representing the South Sub-Section in the girls team event at the section meet will be Fosston and Fertile-Beltrami. CL-B will send Ann Aitken and Jill Quaderer to the section tournament as individuals as Aitken finished second at sub-sections and Quaderer seventh.

In the girls sub-section, Fosston shot 379 and Fertile-Beltrami 497. CL-B finished a shot back at 498 and Climax-Fisher trailed the field at 514.

Red Lake competed with an incomplete team.

The meet medalist was Amy Mireault of Fosston who shot 83. Cass Lake-Bena's scores included Aitken's 90, Quaderer's 106, Miranda Richards' 113 and Kayla Duoos' 189.

For Red Lake, Sara Fairbanks shot 134, Parrish Barnaby 140 and Keia Roy 150.

Earlier this spring Aitken and Quaderer were named to the Northern Pines All-Conference team. Aitken finished second in the overall conference scoring and Quaderer fourth.

The Panthers were fifth in the final team standings.

In the boys sub-section, Climax-Fisher won the South Sub-Section with 346 and CL-B was second with 349. Fosston finished at 360, Red Lake 367, Win-E-Mac 416 and Fertile-Beltrami 418.

Cass Lake-Bena claimed the top two individual scores as Cody Wind was meet medalist with 80 and Dakotah Brunelle tied for second with 83. Ryan Erickson was ninth at 90 while Randahl Johnson shot 96 and Jerick Pemberton 101.

Red Lake qualified four of its golfers for the section meet by virtue of their top-eight finish among the squads which did not qualify for the section team event.

Red Lake's qualifiers included Rob McNeal (88), Mike Kingbird (90), Corey Beaulieu (94) and Scott Lussier (16). Red Lake's other scores were 104s by Joe Perkins and Marcus Grauman.

Stephen-Argyle won the boys North Sub-Section with 333 and Red Lake County was second with 334. In the girls division, Red Lake County took top honors at 387 and Kittson Central was second at 388.
