Bulldogs compete well at True Team meet

The Bulldogs travelled northwest to Roseau to participate in the Section 8A True Team meet. Eight teams gathered to participate May 11.

The True Team meet is scored very differently than most meets.

Instead of the top six or eight places earning points, in the true team scoring, every athlete that finishes or marks will earn points. To calculate the scores for individual events, take the number of teams and multiply by two. For the relays, the number of teams is multiplied by three. For this meet, first place in the individual events was worth 16, second 15, third 14, down to 16th worth one point. In the relay, first was worth 24, second 21, third 18 down to eighth 3.

Overall, the boys took sixth with 228 points while the girls placed eighth.

Placing in the relays were: boys 4x800 (Butch Strand, Cody Rankin, Brandon Schmid and Keith Shaughnessy) third, girls 4x800 (Danielle Nistler, Jeanette Frenzel, Roxie Kallroos and Kayla Olson); boys 4x200 (Matthew Jedlicka, Tristan Williams, Zeke Burtard and Travis Olafson) fifth, girls 4x200 (Teresa Weidenborner, Justine Frenzel, Kallrooos and Tonay Weidenborner); boys 4x100 (Jedlicka, WIlliams, Tyler Hughes and Olafson) fourth; girls 4x100 (Teresa Weidenborner, Tanyssa Olafson, Justine Frenzel and Tonya Weidenborner); boys 4x400 (Strand, Shaughnessy, Rankin and Caleb Schneider) fourth; girls 4x400 (Nistler, Teresa Weidenborner, Katey Lutz and Olson.

Placing in the top eight individually were: Schneider second (1600) and fifth (800); Strand eighth (1600), Shaughnessy sixth (400) and seventh (High Jump); Josh RedDay eighth (300m Hurdles); Williams seventh (Triple Jump); Olson fifth (1600); Lutz eighth (800) and sixth (high jump); Cathy Frenzel seventh (triple jump); and Carrie Carrigan fifth (shot put).

The boys team set or tied eight team bests. Schneider lowered his 1600m time under five minutes finishing in 4:55. RedDay tied his 110m hurdles and set a new 300m hurdles best at 50.3. Burtard set a new mark in the long jump at 16'10.75" and Willams set the new triple jump mark at 33'9". Shaughnessy tied the high jump mark of 5'6".
