Cass Lake-Bena baseball remains perfect

The Cass Lake- Bena baseball team remained perfect Monday as the Panthers blitzed Kelliher-Northome 14-2 in Cass Lake.

Monday's victory was CL-B's 17th without a loss and the Panthers are 10-0 in conference play. Cass Lake-Bena hoped to continue its unbeaten status Tuesday when it visited Nevis. Today sees the Panthers hosting Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Friday they will entertain Laporte.

Chad Wittner earned Monday's mound victory as he yielded only three hits in collecting his fifth win.

Offensively, Jake Ellis ripped a single, double and home run. Nolan Goss also finished with three hits while Taylor Humphrey had a pair of hits and Mike Masten a round-tripper.

After scoring a single run in the first inning Cass Lake-Bena settled the issue with eight runs in the second. The inning featured singles by Goss and Ellis, Humphrey's double and Ellis' home run.

In the fourth Caleb Fisher singled, Ellis doubled and Masten connected for his home run.

K-N scored in the third on a single by Joe Schuh and Christian Jourdain's double. A hit batter, error and Alex Gehlert's single produced a run in the fifth.
