Cass Lake-Bena baseball team improves to 14-0

Mike Hanson threw a 1-hitter and ripped three hits to power the Cass Lake-Bena baseball team to a 14-1 victory over Blackduck Thursday night at the Bemidji State University diamond.

The Panthers improved to 14-0 and 8-0 in conference action. CL-B was scheduled to host Laporte Friday and Monday it will visit Remer.

Cass Lake-Bena bolted to a 4-0 lead after the first inning with the help of singles Hanson and Tyler Trosen and Jake Ellis' double.

Brett Fredrickson's single started a 5-run second inning which also featured Nolan Goss' single and doubles by Chad Wittner and Hanson.

Fredrickson and Trosen belted doubles in the 4-run CL-B third and singles by Ellis and Mike Manson helped the Panthers score a run in the fourth.

Blackduck spoiled Hanson's no-hit bid with a 2-out single in the fifth inning.

On Wednesday Cass Lake-Bena bounced Red Lake 13-3.

Wittner improved to 4-0 on the mound and Trosen belted three hits.

The Panthers scored all the runs they would need in the opening inning as doubles by Hanson and Trosen combined with singles courtesy of Ellis and Masten to produce four runs.

Cass Lake-Bena scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Ellis added a home run in the 5-run sixth and the Panthers settled the issue with a solo run in the seventh.
