Bemidji State golf: Beavers' Curb makes all-conference team

Chris Curb of the Bemidji State University men's golf team was named to the NSIC's All-Conference first-team while teammates Jim Foss and Jesse Nelson were selected to the honorable mention squad.

Curb, a freshman from Bemidji, was the only underclassman to be named to the first-team. During the 2009-10 season he posted eight top-10 finishes and was meet medalist in two events.

His 73.5 scoring average over 20 rounds was the best in the conference.

At the NSIC meet Curb finished fifth with a five-round total of 368 and that performance helped the Beavers place second in the team competition.

Foss averaged 74.2 over his 20 rounds and was tied for sixth at the NSIC meet. Nelson was third at the NSIC competition at 366 and averaged 74.5 in 17 rounds.0504 bsu stuff

The season ended for the Bemidji State University baseball team Saturday when the Beavers lost 9-8 and 12-3 in nonconference action at Montana State in Billings, Mont.

BSU ended the fall with a 16-37 record. The team will lose two players to graduation, Josh Silvernagel and Dan Bennett.

In Saturday's opener BSU scored three runs in the first inning but yielded five in the lower half of the frame. The game was close throughout and a pinch-hit single by Doug Peterson scored Nick Jalacie in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 8-8.

Montana State, however, used a walk, bunt and error to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

Jalacie had three hits and scored three runs.

In the nightcap Bemidji State scored a run in the second and led 3-1 after four innings. But the home team tallied three in the fifth, three more in the sixth and five in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

The BSU softball team dropped a doubleheader at UMD Sunday, 4-3 and 9-0. The games originally were scheduled at Bemidji State but were moved to Duluth because of better field conditions.

Courtney Anderson was the losing pitcher in Sunday's opener. The sophomore fanned six and allowed two earned runs.

Bemidji State's offense was absent in the nightcap as UMD pitcher Heather Stemper threw a no-hitter.
