Bemidji State notebook: BSU men's golf qualifies for NCAA tourney

The Bemidji State men's golf team has been selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships.

BSU will participate in the Central/West Super Regional scheduled for May 3-5 at Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.

BSU is one of 80 teams and 32 individuals across the country in postseason play this spring.

Each of the four super regionals combine two regions based on geographical location to make up the 20-team, eight-individual super regional. The Central/West Regional will be hosted by California State University, San Bernardino.

The top five teams and the top two individuals not a member of an advancing team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 18-21.

Don Niskanen coaches the team of Chris Curb, Josh Dale, James Foss, Aric Hansen, Matthew Haugstad, Casey Hill, Justin Johnson, Danny Menton, Ben Moen, Garrett Nelson, Jesse Nelson and Jordan Priem.

The Beavers captured the Winona State Invite on Monday led by Curb's two-round score of even par (73-69) at the Golf Club At Cedar Creek in Onalaska, Wis.

His two-under par 69 was the low round score Monday and vaulted him into a tie for medalist honors after trailing by two strokes following Sunday's round.

Hill finished third (74-70) and Foss was tied for eighth (76-75).

BSU returns to action this weekend at Monticello Country Club in the St. John's Invitational.

BRANDON, S.D. - The Bemidji State University women's golf team stands tied for seventh place after the first round of the 36-hole NSIC Championships at Brandon Golf Course.

BSU shot 365 as a team (+81) and are 46 strokes back from leader Augustana.

BSU junior Gretchen Trosen shot 87 and is in a six way tie for 21st place. The tournament wraps up today.

The four-game series between the Bemidji State baseball team and Concordia-St. Paul has been moved from Saturday-Sunday to Sunday-Monday due to an inclement weather forecast in St. Paul.

With the change, BSU's nine inning contest at Minnesota-Crookston scheduled for Monday has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

Sunday's doubleheader start is set for 1 p.m. and Monday's first pitch is at noon.

BSU softball pitcher Courtney Anderson and BSU golfer Chris Curb were recognized as the Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week for April 12-18.

Curb led the men's golf team to the Winona State University Invitational title April 18-19 and shared co-medalist honors as the with Mankato's Kyle Bahe for the low score of the meet at even par.
