Wardenaar wins 50k event at National Speedskating Marathon

Erik Wardenaar of Golden Valley won the 50-kilometer National Long Track Speedskating Marathon Sunday on Lake Bemidji, covering the course in 1 hour, 45 minutes, 14.38 seconds.

That was nearly four minutes ahead of the second-place finisher, Nate Feinberg of Rochester, N.Y.

Wardenaar, 49, is a Dutch native who now skates for the Plymouth/Wayzata team out of the Twin Cities. He finished second in Saturday's 25k event.

This was the third year Bemidji has hosted the national event.
