Bemidji Middle School basketball report for Jan. 16

Girls 8A

The Bemidji 8A girls captured the title of their own invitational last weekend beating Fosston 28-12, Thief River 31-28 and Crookston 35-15.

Thief River stopped Fosston and Crookston to take second while Fosston turned back Crookston to finish third.

Bemidji fronted Fosston 15-8 at halftime. Taylor Kane led the scoring with six, Jillian Ricci, Casey Palmer and Caroline Kuether had four, Tara Bergeron and Claire Laakso three and Claudia Bellew and Abby Hinrichs two..

Kane led the rebounders with four.

Bemidji overcame an 18-16 halftime deficit to overcome Thief River.

Palmer led with eight. Bellew added six, Ricci and Kane four, Anna Fogarty three and Kayla Snell, Hinrichs and Kuether two. Palmer had nine rebounds and Kane eight.

Bemidji held a 23-9 halftime lead over Crookston. Laakso hit 12, Kane eight, Palmer five, Bellew and Kuether four and Ricci two. Palmer was top rebounder with five.

On Tuesday, the eighth graders won at Bagley 35-22 leading 22-13 at the half.

Hinrichs led with eight. Kane and Fogarty had six, Ricci five and Bellew, Bergeron, Palmer, Kuether and Laakso two. Kane's four rebounds topped the team

The 8A is now 6-1 and idle until the Cloquet Invitational Jan. 23.

Girls 7A

Crookston captured the title of the Bemidji 7th Grade Invitational Saturday with three straight wins.

Thief River Falls was second at 2-1 with Fosston 1-2 and Bemidji 0-3.

Fosston stopped Bemidji 27-25 in the first round with Alissa Sagedahl scoring 5, Alexa Greendahl and Megan Serratore 4, DS Sarah Glen and Karlie Leif 3 Katrina Holman and Jessica McKay and Amber Smith 2.

Bemidji missed nine of its 12 free throws including six straight in the final 90 seconds.

Alex Littlewolf had 7 rebounds and Greendahl and Sagedahl 6. Greendahl was named top defender..

Thief River then stopped Bemidji 28-22. Leif led with 8,. Sagedahl added 6, Holman and Serratore 3 and Bethany Knutson 2.

Holman and Sagedahl had 7 rebounds and Leif 6 Holman was named top defender.

Crookston won the final game 52-14. Sagedahl had 4, Greendahl, Littlewolf, Serratore and Smith 2 and Holman and Leif 1.

Sagedahl led with 6 rebounds. McKay was named top defender.

Bemidji takes an 0-6 record to its next start at the Cloquet Invitational Jan. 23.

The B Team (0-3) goes to Bagley Tuesday and Blackduck Thursday.
