Minnesota State Mankato rallied with two third-period goals to force overtime and then won a shootout victory Friday night over Bemidji State in Western Collegiate Hockey Association women's play at the John Glas Fieldhouse.

The Beavers appeared well on their way to a victory after scoring twice in the second period. Erin Cody and MontanaVichorek got the goals for Bemidji.

The Beavers' Zuzana Tomcikova was stellar in goal over the first two frames, turning away all 23 shots the Mavericks fired at her.

But Mankato got things going early in the third, scoring twice in a span of 79 seconds to tie the game.

There was no more scoring in regulation and in the five-minute overtime, setting up a shootout.

Cody scored on BSU's first shootout attempt, but after Mankato's Lauren Smith and Kala Buganski both beat Tomcikova for a 2-1 edge, Mavs goaltender Paige Thunder thwarted Annie Bauerfield's attempt to seal the win.

BSU falls to 6-12-3 overall and 5-6-3-4-3 in the WCHA. Mankato is 5-10-4 and 2-8-5-3.

The teams meet again today at 3:07 p.m.
