BHS girls third, boys fifth at Ely ski meet

Bemidji's girls finished third and the boys fifth at the opening ski meet of the year Saturday at Ely.

Ely won the girls title with 383 points to 377 for Duluth East and 329 for BemidjiSeven complete teams and four incomplete took part.

Marian Lund of East won in 16:54 over the 5k freestyle route

For Bemidji, Bailey Drewes was seventh, Molly Manske 20. Laura Yourd 23, Alicia Papke-Larson 25 and Tiffany Mason 28 in a field of 47.

Ely won the boys title with 380 points to 371 for Mesabi East. Bemidji had 291 to trail East and Grand Rapids.

Jake Dalberg of Ely won in 14:51.

Matt Lee led Bemidji in seventh. Adam Holter was 29, Lucas Brokl. 37, Sam Dwyer 40 and Eli Rassler 42 in a field of 48.

Jesse Olson of Ely won the boys JV title in 16:18.

For Bemidji. Tony Sagedahl was 11, Kyle Sagedahl 17, Matt Chatterton 26, Zach Hewitt 29, Carl Graefe 36, Andy Berube 40 and Tanner Asper 42.

The girls JV winner was Kiersten Haaverson of Two Harbors in 20:20.

Bemidji had no entrants.

Will Gustafson of Ely won the boys Junior High title in 14:14 over a 3.3k route.For Bemidji Jordan Wednchuk was third, Josh Claussen sixth, Matt Ericksson 17, Anthony Trudeau 22, Austin Chatterton 25, Tanner Zaccagnino 26, Kyle Johnson 36, Joel Carlson 40, Isaiah Rieger 41. Geoffrey Boser 43, Nolan Hamilton 44, Harrison Plum 45 and Tyler Verdugo 47.

The girls Junior High winner was Leslyn VanEvery of Ely in 14:38.

For Bemidji Morgan Sagedahl was 15, Lauren Weaver 33, Cassie Wednchuk 34, Amelia Hudson 35 and Hannah Hamilton 40.

The next scheduled meet is the Bemidji Relays Saturday at the Montebello Trails though that meet is in doubt for lack of snow. An announcement is expected shortly.
