The Moorhead Spuds scored an open net goal in the final 80 seconds of play Thursday night to hold off Bemidji's Lumberjacks 4-3 at The Glas.

The score came between two Bemidji tallies after pulling goalie Miah Graves, each; slicing the Spuds lead to a single goal.

But time ran out before the Jacks could launch another shot.

The win was the second in as many starts for the Spuds and Bemidji's first loss in three games. The pair meet again at Moorhead Feb. 9.

The Jacks get little time to rest, hosting Apollo at 5 Saturday at Nymore Gardens in the second game of a girls-boys double header.

The girls take on Fergus Falls at 12:45.

Bemidji never led in the contest and was outshot 32-16 by Moorhead which controlled play for the most part.

But Bemidji never backed down in the hectic game that saw end to end action most of the night.

It drew one of the largest crowd in recent seasons.

Kyle Kraemer had two Moorhead goals with Bryant Christian and Seam Kunkel one.

Brady Devescovi, Rylee Curb and Steve Heller scored for Bemidji,.

Moorhead held a 13-3 shots bulge in the opening period with only some stellar goal tending by Graves keeping Bemidji within reach.

Christian scored at 4:51 at the end of a rush on the net.

Devescovi tied the count at 10:41 of the second stanza on a similar score taking a feed from Max Hazelton to beat Logan Marks from five feet.

But the Spuds used a power play to go back ahead three minutes later on Kraemer's first goal and repeated in another two minutes span on his second.

Moorhead held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal in that stanza.

The 3-1 margin lingered into the final two minutes which became frantic.

With 1:37 remaining, Coach Wade Chiodo pulled Graves for a sixth skater .

It took only 10 seconds for Curb to connect ion feeds from Kevin Larson and Jesse Nemgar.

But 13 seconds later, Kunkel took a pass from Marks and found the open net from behind his own blue line to lift the lead back to two goals.

Undaunted Bemidji matched this goal on Heller's tally at 16:26 but was unable to score again in the closing 34 seconds .

Graves ended with 28 stops in a fine display. Marks had only 13.

It was the reverse in the opener which found Bemidji scoring twice in the final period to win 3-2.

Jordan Heller tied the game at 1:23 of the period and Tyler Follis won it at 13:545 on the power play. Chris Isensee had the first goal which tied the score 1-1 in the first period,.

Ben Schram made 16 saves for Bemidji. Mike Bitzer had 15 for Moorhead.

The JV will face Apollo tomorrow at 3 in the middle game of the day.
