Bemidji State women's hockey: Beavers return from break to take on North Dakota

The Bemidji State women's hockey team returns to the ice Saturday after a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Beavers will face North Dakota in a home-and-home series with BSU traveling to UND Saturday for a 7:07 p.m. game and UND traveling to Bemidji Sunday for a 7:07 p.m. game at John Glas Fieldhouse.

Bemidji State has had mixed results in WCHA play this season and has struggled to find consistency.

The Beavers have lost three straight games. BSU was swept by No. 2 Minnesota in the last series outing on Nov. 20-21 after losing the series finale to St. Cloud State on Nov. 14.

Prior to the three game losing streak, BSU won two games in regulation and another in a shootout.

The Beavers are 4-10-2 overall and 3-5-2-2 in the WCHA.

Bemidji State stands fifth in the WCHA standings in a tight race with 10 points. At this point in the season, only five points separate third place from last place.

Minnesota leads the league with 20 points and is emerging as a favorite to win the regular season title.

North Dakota sits last in WCHA play at 3-6-1 and is 3-6-3 overall.

Erin Johnson currently leads the Beavers in scoring with seven goals and her 10 points is tied with Erin Cody (four goals) for the team lead.

Of Johnson's seven goals, five have come on the power play.

Annie Bauerfeld and Franny Dorr each have three goals.

Bemidji State goalie Zuzana Tomcikova is off to another strong season. She has appeared in 12 games this season and has a 2.33 goals against average and a .928 save percentage. All of BSU's wins this season have come in her starts.

Alana McElhinney has started in four games for BSU this season and she may get a nod this weekend against the Sioux.

McElhinney will take over goaltending duties when Tomcikova goes to the Vancouver Olympic Games in February to play for Slovakia.
