Hockey Day is coming to Bemidji; 13th annual event set for winter 2019

BSU women's hockey, volleyball take to the road

The Bemidji State women's hockey will head south to Mankato for a weekend series against Minnesota State.

Gametime Friday is 7:07 p.m. and gametime Saturday is 3:07 p.m.

Bemidji State split last weekend's series with Wayne State, winning 3-1 and losing 6-1.

The victory marked the first time Bemidji State scored more than two goals in a game this season.

BSU enters the weekend 2-7-1 overall and 1-2-1-1 in WCHA play.

Mankato is 3-2-1 overall and 1-2-1-1 in WCHA play.

The Bemidji State volleyball team is on the road for two weekend games.

The Beavers are at Augustana Friday at 7 p.m. and Wayne State Saturday at 5 p.m.

Bemidji State snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over St. Cloud State at home Tuesday night.

Bemidji State is 3-3 in the last six games.

The Beavers (10-17 overall, 7-9 NSIC) will return home next weekend for the final two games of the regular season. BSU hosts Winona State on Friday night and Upper Iowa Saturday afternoon.

BSU sophomore setter Courtney Bitter has been named to the ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic Second-Team All-District V.

Bitter is honored in her first year eligible for the award. The last Beaver to be named to an academic all-district team was Brittney Carlson in 2005 as a third team member.

Bitter holds a 4.00 grade point average in physical therapy at Bemidji State. On the court, she is first on the team in assists with 920 (9.48 a/s) and service aces with 20 (0.21 sa/s), is third in digs with 257 (2.65 d/s) and fifth in kills 120 (1.24 k/s).

The academic all-district teams are nominated and selected by College Sports Information Directors of America members.

Junior forward Ashlee Ellefsen was named All-NSIC First Team. This is her third conference-postseason award in her career after being named to the second team her freshman year and to the third team her sophomore year. Ellefsen is one of Bemidji State's all-time premier scorers having broken the school records for both career points (80) and career goals (32).

Junior defender Alysha Domiano was named All-NSIC Second Team. This too is her highest postseason award in her career. Domiano was named Honorable Mention in both her freshman and sophomore years. She has been a crucial part in the Beaver backline all year. Her efforts in the defensive third have helped the Beavers limit their opponents to just 16 goals so far this season.

Senior defender Linsey Olesiak was named All-NSIC Honorable Mention. The award is the first-ever of its type for Olesiak. As a captain on the field, Olesiak brings leadership to a team full of young talent. Olesiak plays alongside teammate Domiano on the backline, which has been one of the keys to the success the Beavers have experienced this season.
