Soccer: Eight Jacks named to all-conference team

Bemidji gained eight berths on the boys and girls Lakes to Prairie Soccer Conference All-Star teams announced today.

Five boys and three girls were named to the two units, two more than Bemidji gained last fall.

Bemidji tied Detroit Lakes for first in the boys division, losing the title on criteria after a 3-2 loss and 2-2 tie with the Lakers.

The girls tied Detroit Lakes and Crookston for second place in their division behind unbeaten East Grand Forks..

DL claimed its first boys title in the eight-year history of the League. East Grand won its third straight and went on to take the section 8A championship in a shootout over Apollo,.

Hillcrest Academy still leads the boys division with two titles and a tie with Bemidji for a third. Fergus Falls, no longer in the league, also has two outright championships.

Bemidji has two outright girls titles and tied Fergus and Crookston in two other years,

Named to the boys all conference squad were Rylee Curb, Mike Rees, Max Hazelton, Mike Smith and Isak Sommer.

It was the third award for Curb, one of six repeaters.

Crookston's Javier Portillo also was a third year pick.

Making the team for the second year were. Danny Engberg and Charlie Smith of DL and Thanh Kim and Pedro Villagomes of Hillcrest.

Named to the girls squad were Nicole Ramos, Bronwyn Boyd and Annie Swartz from Bemidji, Ramos a repeater.

Jaclyn Scanlan, EGF junior, was picked for the fourth straight season and teammate Francie Piche for the third. Becca Aker of East Side was a second year pick.

As always, the number of picks was weighted by the team's order of finish.

East Side had five spots on the girls team and DL five on the boys.

Walker gained berths for Natalie Stein on the girls team and Brian Munson on the boys.

In addition, Bemidji goalie Kevin Larson and forward Caitlin Blotske drew honorable mention awards.

East Side takes a 22-0 mark to the state. St. Cloud Cathedral won the boys section crown. DL was eliminated by Crookston 3-2 on a shootout in the first round of the sectional.

Bemidji ended 12-5-2 in boys play and 9-9-1 in the girls.
