Bemidji HS volleyball: Jacks roll over Duluth Central 3-0

The Bemidji High volleyball team warmed up for tonight's finale with Baudette rolling past outmatched Duluth Central 3-0 at the BHS Field House on Monday.

The win was the 21st for the home team, tying its single season record set the past two seasons.

It goes after the record alone tonight.

The small Central team opened without two regulars due to illness and had no weapons to combat stronger Bemidji.

The big Bemidji front line totally controlled the net, rolling up points in bunches and never allowing the Trojans to get untracked.

It closed out the night in 54 minutes, winning 25-8, 25-7, 25-10.

Bemidji jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first game behind Erika Weimann, ran four behind Brooke Homer and five with Meghan Wannebo at the line to move to a 15-2 lead and closed with a pair of fours behind Abby Hendricks and Courtney Homer.

Bemidji held a 14-1 lead in earned points with Kayla Hirt and Kelsey Heisler getting three kills and Jess Yost, Hendricks and Courtney Homer two.

Wannebo and Courtney Homer had aces. Each side had two service faults.

It was more of the same in Game 2 with Hendricks serving for a quick 12-0 lead and Nicole McDonald closing for a late four which sent Bemidji to a 24-6 lead.

Bemidji had an 18-4 earned points advantage with Hirt going wild with 13 kills. Central had two of the three service faults. There were no aces.

Nothing changed in Game 3 despite flooding the floor with reserves.

Central took its only lead at 1-0 but Bemidji quickly moved ahead 9-3, then ran five behind Hendricks and later had two short strings of three.

It held an 11-1 lead in earned points with Hirt getting three kills and Heisler two. Hirt had two aces and Hendricks and Courtney Homer one. Each side had two service faults

Brooke Homer ended with 32 sets,. Weimann had 17 digs, Wannebo 11 and Courtney Homer 9.

It was more of the same in the preliminaries. The JV won 25-8, 25-7, 15-0 while the C Team prevailed over the Central B Team 25-17, 25-9.

The B Team had the night off.

The JV and B Teams played at the Grand Rapids Invitational Thursday. The JV won with a 5-0 record beating Hill City 25-17, 25-6, Virginia 25.11, 25-8, Grand Rapids Orange 25-15 25-14, Deer River 25-9, 25-1 2 and Grand Rapids Black 25-15, 25-15.

The B Team ended second at 3-0-2 winning over Virginia 25-9, 25.13, Deer River 25-19, 25-11 and International Falls 25-15, 26-5 and dividing matches with the Rapids Black 19-25, 25-17 and Orange 19-25, 25-23.

The Black ended 4-0-1 to take the title. All four team host Baudette tonight.
