Bemidji HS cross country competes at Alexandria meet

The Bemidji boys cross country team finished eighth among 17 teams Saturday at the Alexandria Tournament of Champions.

The girls were 13 in a 16- team field.

Stillwater won the boys title with 53 points, well ahead of runner-up Roseville with 116. Mounds View, Willmar and Alexandria rounded out the top five.

Bemidji had 254.

Kyle Economy of Chaska was the individual winner, touring the 5k course in 16:22. Ryan Nichols of Stillwater was four seconds back in second.

Alex Schoneberger led Bemidji in 26 at 17:24.

Andy Berube was 29, John Buckanaga 47, Jake Urban 74 and Justin Byers 78.

Dan Clemenson was 87 as the lone kicker.

Roseville won the girls varsity crown with 54 points to 124 for Alexandria with Monticello, Mounds View and Chanhassen the next three.

Bemidji ended with 342 besting St Louis Park, Apollo and Lakeview.

Heidi Peterson of Sartell was the winner in 14:41, scoring a rare victory over Jamie Piepenburg of Alex who was 12 seconds back. It was her first loss this season.

For Bemidji, Bailey Drewes led at 21 in 16:07 with Kim Truedson 28 Alex Lyren 92, Hana Felix 98 and Betsy Richards 103.

Chelsea Johnson was the lone kicker at 108.

Stillwater won the boys JV title with 24 points to 57 for Roseville. Bemidji had 304 to finish eighth in an 18-team field.

Brett Parendo of Stillwater was the individual winner in 17:21.

For Bemidji, Devin Danielson was 38, Josh Kane 63, Corey Huber 65, Tanner Asper 67 and Bryce Blankenfeld 71.

Then came Ryan Erickson 81, Jake Fisher 82, Trent Buckanaga 83, Alex Cole 140, Pete Humeniuk 171, Keegan Hilmer 181, Eric Johannsen 188 and Eli Rassler 201 in a field of 291.

The girls JV title went to Chanhassen with 32 points to 41 for Roseville with Bemidji having no entrants. Rachel Mason of Roseville won in 16:40.

The boys junior high crown was won by Roseville with 52 points with Bemidji fourth at 113.

Sean Bjork of Stillwater won in 11:16. For Bemidji, Devin Barrett was 11, Nick Hovila 16, Matt Glen 23, Eric Sorenson 31 and Tom Revering 32.

The came Nate Spangler 45.

The girls junior high race went to Red Wing with 25 points to 76 for Rocori in a slim five-team field. Kelsey Anderson of Red Wing won in 12:35.

For Bemidji Jenna Truedson was fourth at 13:07 LeAnne Oakes 17 and Amber Solheim 20, as the only entrants.

Bemidji runs at the St. Cloud Tech Invitational  Tuesday.
