Bemidji sixth in opening cross country meets

The Bemidji High cross country teams each took sixth place Monday at the season opening Moorhead Invitational.

They make their home debut Sept. 10 at the BSU Invitational at Greenwood golf course.

Moorhead won both titles, taking the boys division with 26 points to 46 for Willmar. Perham, Detroit Lakes and Staples-Motley completed the top five. Bemidji had 157, ten behind the Cardinals.

Lukas Gemar, Moorhead junior, took the individual title with a 16:14 finish over the 5,000 meter route.

Teammates Christian Larson and Matt Nicolai were second and third. The Spuds also finished fourth and 15 to dominate the field.

Junior Jake Urban paced Bemidji in 28 in the adjusted standings. Andy Berube was 29, Alex Schoneberger 31, Dylan Jones 33 and John Buckanaga 33 to complete the scoring. The kickers were David Danielson 40 and Corey Huber 43 in a field of 94.

Justin Byers was 50, Scott Haselbus 55 and Dan Clemenson 78.

Moorhead took the girls title with 46 points to 61 for Perham with Park Rapids, Willmar and Staples-Motley the next three.

Bemidji had 119, ten points behind the Cardinals.

Maddie McClellan of Perham was the individual champ, touring the 4,000 meter layout in 15:23.6.

Teammate Abby Anderson was second.

Tayler Janssen led Moorhead in third with the Spuds also going 8-10-12-13.

For Bemidji, Kim Truedson was ninth in 16:24.6 with Bailey Drewes 11, Amber Solheim 26, Alex Lyren 30 and Betsy Richards 43. Chelsea Johnson was the only kicker in 59 in a field of 70.

Willmar took the boys JV title with 34 points over Moorhead with 45 with Bemidji fourth at 107 behind Perham.

Abdulahi Muhamed of Willmar won in 18:14.3 to key a 1-3-6-7-10-13 finish.

Bryce Blankenfeld led Bemidji in 12 at 19:53.8. Tanner Asper was 14, Jake Fisher 22, Peter Humeniuk 25 and Josh Kane 34 to complete the scoring.

The kickers were Eric Johannsen 35 and Zach Rickers 36 in the adjusted standings. Trent Buckanaga was 40, Keegan Hilmer and Dan Kilday 48-49, Hayden Byers 51 and Eli Rassler 59, in a field of 80.

Moorhead took the girls JV race with 29 points to 36 for Willmar. Hawley and Detroit Lakes completed the slim field. Bemidji had no entries.

Moorhead also won the boys junior high race with 21 points to 71 for Perham. Bemidji was fifth with103.

Josh Young led a 1-2-4-5-9 Spuds finish.

For Bemidji, Devin Barrett was 11, Tony and Kyle Sagedahl 19--21, Erik Sorenson 22 and Nathan Spangler 30 to complete the scoring.

Matt Peske was 32, as the lone kicker. All six were freshmen with the Middle School not beginning practice until after school starts.
