The Bemidji VFW took another firm step forward toward a District 9 title Thursday night, sweeping Moorhead 8-2 and 9-4 at BSU.

Bemidji and Moorhead had divided their first two games on paper when they were rained out in progress in their twin bill at Moorhead.

At home the Vets left little doubt of who was the better team. Moorhead exited with a 3½-12½ league record, the half points coming for a game at Perham that was rained out.

The final run crossed in the sixth on a walk, error and Steven's single.

Stevens came on in the seventh after a leadoff single to retire three straight and end the game.

Murphy, Bellew and Bardwell had two hits in the Bemidji attack with seven of the nine starters hitting safely. Jared Hendrickson was the only Gold player with more than a single safety.

Ernie Heifort and Zac Solheim combined on the mound in the nightcap with Solheim coming on in the fourth inning to get the win.

The pair fanned seven and walked seven while giving up nine hits.

Moorhead scored in the first on a pair of walks around two singes, the second free pass driving in the run.

Bemidji tied it when it came to bat on Hendricks' single, a wild pickoff, stolen base and Kris Berndt's sacrifice fly.

It went ahead 3-1 in the second on hits by Bellew, Jake Urban, Hendricks and Berndt.

Moorhead tied it at 3-3 in the fourth on three hits around a walk with Solheim coming in to get the final two outs. He allowed only two hits the rest of the way.
