BHS football team opens season Friday night against Willmar

The final Bemidji High fall sports team makes its debut tonight when the football team entertains a new rival, Willmar at 7 at Chet Anderson Stadium.

It will be the first of eight regular season games for the Jacks in a grueling schedule.

Willmar and Rocori, two of the Central Lakes Conference's better teams, replace tail enders Little Falls and Apollo on the slate this fall in the rotation schedule between the CLC and independents Bemidji and Moorhead.

Little Falls and Apollo were two of the Jacks three victims last fall.

Sartell will replace Sauk Rapids in the third switch.

There will be no breathers during the entire year.

Willmar and Rocori will be met for the first time since the new arrangement was mandated by the MSHSL.

Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes were also included in the scheduling arrangement when it was initiated. Fergus has since joined the CLC and DL has gone to the North Country Conference and no longer engages the CLC teams.

The 188 mile distance between the two cities has precluded Bemidji and Willmar from crossing paths in the past century.

It did play Montevideo in a post season game at Willmar in 1975.

Tonight will be a major test for the young Jacks.

Bemidji is coming off its third straight 3-6 campaign and is seeking its first winning year since 2001 when it reached the section final before bowing to Alexandria in an 8-3 season.
