VOLLEYBALL: Bemidji finishes 3-1 at Apple Valley

APPLE VALLEY — Bemidji finished this weekend’s Apple Valley volleyball invitational with a 1-3 record, dropping both starts Friday and splitting Saturday’s matches.

In Friday’s action the Lumberjacks lost to Marshall and to Waconia. Saturday morning BHS dominated Apple Valley 25-18, 25-16 but the Jacks fell to Bethlehem Academy 22-25, 25-19, 17-15 in the noon session.

Marshall is the defending Class 2A state champion while Bethlehem Academy won the 2012 Class A state crown.

“We continued to make errors on Saturday and they are mostly the result of a lack of communication,” said Bemidji coach Teresa Colligan. “We just have to learn how to communicate better.”

Myria Colley paced the offense in the win over Apple Valley as she delivered eight kills. Brylee Colligan and Claire Laakso each contributed five kills.

Alexa Greendahl dished 19 set assists and Karlie Leif had seven digs. Talia Lucken added six digs.

Colley drilled 11 kills and Colligan six during the loss to Bethlehem Academy. Greendahl had 19 assists, Laakso four blocks and Hanna Olson 15 digs.

Bemidji (4-7) returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Hibbing.
