IFL to announce team name today

BEMIDJI -- Bemidji’s new Indoor Football League team will be getting a name this week.

League officials announced Tuesday that they will unveil the team’s name and logo at press conference at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ace Hardware on the Lake.

According to the press release, more than 1,000 people submitted entries to the “Name Your Team” contest, which was put on by the team and the Pioneer.

Team co-owner and president Chris Kokalis said he was overwhelmed by the community response to the contest.

“It’s been exciting,” he said. “I think the people of the community are going to love what we’ve picked out.

“I’ve said all along that this is Bemidji’s team and I think this new name and logo will reflect that.”

Members of the team’s ownership group, in addition to city and Sanford Center officials, will be at Thursday’s press conference to answer questions about the team.

Kokalis also noted that the team’s new website will go live immediately following the press conference.

The team is set to begin play in February at the Sanford Center.
