GOLF: Jenkins, Clark, Howard lead at Vandersluis

BEMIDJI — Tom Jenkins of Champlin and James Clark of Plymouth each shot a 1-under 71 to tie for the early lead of the Vandersluis Memorial Golf Tournament’s men’s championship Saturday at Bemidji Town and Country Club.

Full results were not available at presstime.

Jenkins, the defending men’s champion, has won six titles.

Zach Israelson of Staples was third at 72 while Jeff Peltier of Bemidji, Jim Foss of Roseau and Steve Young of LaSalle, Manitoba, rounded out the top five with scores of 1-over 73.

In the senior men’s championship defending champion Curtis Howard of Sapulpa, Okla., had the lead with 1-over 73. Bruce Nord of Grand Forks, Greg Tighe of Fort Frances, Ontario, Brent Armstrong of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Bill Zeweniuk of Winnipeg were tied for the lead with 3-over 75.

Play continues into the weekend. The final round is scheduled for Monday.
