AMATEUR BASEBALL: Blue Ox, Reds both fall in first round of region playoffs

ADA -- After one round of the Minnesota Baseball Association Region 10C tournament Saturday afternoon, both area teams still alive in playoff competition will be fighting off elimination.

The Bemidji Blue Ox and Cass Lake Reds each dropped their first-round contests and will have to win losers bracket games today to avoid an early playoff exit.

The Blue Ox fell to the Ada Athletics 12-4 Saturday afternoon while the Reds lost a close 3-2 game against the Crookston Reds earlier Saturday.

Ada moved on to take on the Roseau Royals while Crookston advanced to play the Moorhead Bulldogs later Saturday; those games were not complete at presstime.

Cass Lake will play at 10 a.m. today against the Ada-Roseau loser while the Blue Ox will play the Moorhead-Crookston loser at 1 p.m. The winners of those games will meet again at 7 p.m. for the right to advance to the tournament's second weekend.
