Pioneer wins reporting award

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Bemidji Pioneer captured a first place award for writing in the Minnesota Associated Press Sports Association's contest for 2012.

The award was presented Wednesday at the group's annual meeting in Minneapolis.

Competing in the under 20,000 circulation division, the Pioneer's Jack Hittinger won first place in the Enterprise Reporting category for his series on the Bemidji State men's hockey team's finances.

It's the first AP award for Hittinger, who has been with the Pioneer since April of 2012.
