BEMIDJI — Tom Revering cleared the bases with a three-run double in the fourth inning to power the Bemidji Legion baseball team to a 14-10 home victory Thursday in the opening game of a doubleheader against Fergus Falls.

Because of the 24 runs and an hour rain delay in the opening game, the rematch started very late and was not finished at presstime.

Revering’s bases-clearing double was his third hit of the contest. In the first inning Revering tripled and he added a single in the third.

The Legion (3-6), took a 3-1 lead in the opening frame and Revering’s triple sparked the inning. Erik Fitzgerald followed with a RBI single and, after Nick Hovila walked, both runners advanced on a passed ball.

Fitzgerald scored courtesy of Lucas Goins’ grounder and Collin Rutledge plated Hovila with a single.

Fergus Falls answered with five runs in the top of the second to take a 6-3 lead and the score stood until the third when Bemidji drew even.

A walk to Goins and Rutledge’s single set the table for Mitch Buckanaga’s two-run double. Before Buckanaga could dust himself off after the slide, however, a heavy rain forced everyone to take cover. The rain lasted about 10 minutes and it took Tim Bellew’s grounds crew another 45 minutes to make the diamond playable.

When play resumed Parker Lucas drilled a single to give Bemidji a 7-6 lead.

The Legion continued its attack in the fourth and six hits in the frame helped produce an 8-run inning. Revering’s bases-loaded double and Connor McNallan’s two-run single keyed the rally.

Rutledge finished with three singles while Fitzgerald and McNallan each had two hits.
