Israelson qualifies for US Senior Open

WAYZATA – Bill Israelson qualified for the 34th annual U.S. Senior Open golf championship by winning a section qualifying tournament Monday at Spring Hill Golf Club here.

The U.S. Senior Open will be July 11-14 at the Omaha Country Club in Omaha, Neb.

Israelson, who is a Bemidji native and currently is the club professional at The Vintage in Staples, shot 38-34-72 on the par-72 Spring Hill layout. Also qualifying from the 52-golfer field was Jim Sobb of Barrington, Ill., who shot 39-35-74.

The first and second alternates are Jerry Rose of Sarasota, Fla. (39-36-75) and Pat Smith of Minneapolis (37-39-76).
