LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Mississippi Music wraps up another great season

In August, we wrapped up our third series of Mississippi Music’s concerts on the waterfront. (Mississippi Music is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization.) We would like to thank the thousands of folks, locals and visitors alike, who attended our concerts this summer. Luckily the weather was on our side this season, and we only had to move the musicians indoors to Brigid’s Pub a couple of nights. A big thanks goes out to Jake Robinson and Travis Glass and all of their staff for their help on those evenings.

These free, family-friendly concerts are made possible only because of the efforts of our many business partners, including our title co-sponsors, Paul Bunyan Communications and the Bemidji Downtown Alliance. We also had a great selection of performance sponsors this season: Choice Therapy, Security BankUSA, Jerry Downs Insurance, Visit Bemidji and Minnesota Monthly (for the Best Minnesota Town party), North Central Door, First National Bank of Bemidji, Otter Tail Power and Wells Fargo. In addition, a group of Mississippi Music supporters sponsored an evening of wonderful music dedicated to local musician Jim Miller.

We couldn’t have had such a successful season without the help from our media partners: KAXE 91.7 KBXE 90.5 Northern Community Radio, Babe 98.3, KKBJ Mix 103.7, Lakeland Public Television, Minnesota Public Radio 91.3 New and 88.5 Classical, and all of the stations of Paul Bunyan/Hubbard Broadcasting, KB101, KZY95.5, Z99 and KBUN 1450.

Whether arriving by car or bike, boat or on foot, it was fun looking at the happy faces of the hundreds of people who gathered downtown on the shores of Lake Bemidji each week to appreciate the music and each other. This included our friends, families and the many visitors who came this summer to enjoy our beautiful area and all that Bemidji has to offer. It felt like a gathering representative of all in our community, enjoying themselves, together.

As we close up shop for this season, we extend a big thank you to everyone in the Bemidji area for their support. And please remember to let our generous business partners know that the Mississippi Music Concert Series is a project that is important to you. See you next year.
