LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Bell ringers help benefit the needy in our community

For many people, the words, “Salvation Army” means jingling bells and kettles. In communities around the country, our Christmas kettles and festive angel trees are familiar landmarks of the season for holiday shoppers. As with all donations to the Salvation Army, these campaigns are entirely to benefit the needy in our community.

We invite you to join the Salvation Army this season and ring the bells. We have openings at six locations this year. Following is a list of businesses who have graciously allowed us to ring at their store, along with contact phone numbers to schedule a time to ring:

  • Call Carol at 218-333-4185 if you would like to ring at either Luekens’ Food Stores or the Paul Bunyan Mall.
  • Call Gene at 218-556-8048 if you would like to ring at L&M Fleet, Walmart (outside).
  • Call Patti at 218-308-5234 to ring at Marketplace Foods.

Time slots are usually two hours at a time, but are whatever your schedule allows. We plan to start our season this weekend and continue through Christmas Eve.

“Realtor Day” is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 8. If there are any realtors in the area who would like to ring, please let me know if you would like to participate in this special day designated for them.

Carol Lauderbaugh, Bemidji, is chairperson of the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign.
