LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Poet Laureate coming to Bemidji for writers conference
This week brings to Bemidji the annual Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference on the campus of Bemidji State University. This is one of the most respected such events in the country, and each year attracts the very best writers in poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction. The weeklong program features workshops for writers of all levels of experience, and offers free evening readings at the American Indian Resource Center.
And program organizers have scored something of a coup—Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy K. Smith, booked for the conference some months ago, was appointed Poet Laureate of the United States just this past week. What luck, what an honor for Bemidji and the conference organizers and participants. Her reading is on Wednesday, at 7:30, at the AIRC, it's free and open to the public. It is an event not to be missed. Information about Tracy and the schedule of readings by the other excellent writers can be found at: northwoodswriters.org.
