Letter: We pray for everyone who is involved in the abortion industry

In response to the editorial titled “The 40 Days of Life protesters are intimidating, not informing,” it is important to set the record straight: 40 Days for Life is a peaceful, prayerful vigil and is definitely not a protest. All vigil participants are well aware that the Bemidji Planned Parenthood does not have an abortionist on staff, but the staff does refer young women to Duluth, Fargo and other locations for abortions.

No 40 Days for Life participant ever bullies anyone. We are there to pray and keep vigil. We pray for everyone involved in the abortion industry, including the abortionists, the mothers and fathers, the families affected. Abortion affects every person in some way or other. I would refer Ms. Olson to an excellent resource about the effect abortion has on women: “The Mourning After” by Terry Selby, M.S.W. Women experience post-traumatic stress after having an abortion. We need to continue to pray for these women to find healing and peace.

The Northwoods Pregnancy Center is an effective organization who is willing and able to assist young women facing an unwanted pregnancy. There are other resources in our community who can help women get through a difficult pregnancy by respecting the mother and treasuring the young life she is carrying.

Life is a gift from God the Father, our Creator. People from over 20 different churches in Bemidji will continue to pray and keep peaceful vigil because life is precious from conception to the grave and we take the Scripture from Proverbs 31:8 seriously: “We must speak for those who have no voice, who are being crushed.”
