Pioneer Editorial: Get outdoors Saturday
Saturday will be a good day to sample the outdoors, weather permitting.
Saturday is National Get Outdoors Day, and Minnesota is celebrating by opening free of charge admission to all its 73 state parks and recreational areas.
The goal of National Get Outdoors Day is to introduce first-time visitors to state parks, state trails, fishing piers and other public lands. In our area, Lake Bemidji State Park, Itasca State Park and the Paul Bunyan Trail are prime areas for visitors, so why not sample them? It's free on Saturday.
It's a national day, so why not also take in the Chippewa National Forest and its trail system? Many areas will also offer free fishing opportunities for youth with Take a Kid Fishing events or other scheduled events or clinics.
We who live here like to get outdoors every day, but National Get Outdoors Day makes it easy for us to sample the local state parks without having to worry about a day pass.
Take advantage of it, and enjoy the day! And, hopefully, many more.
