Arthur F. Pederson
Arthur Francis Pederson, 85, of Bemidji, MN died peacefully on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Sanford Fargo Medical Center.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 am Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Bemidji, MN with Pastor Jim Fretheim officiating. Internment will be at the Nora Township cemetery in Bagley, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
Arthur was born May 18, 1932 in Bloomer Wisconsin, the son of Arthur Julian and Anna (Forsberg) Pederson. He was born two months prematurely because his mother and father were traveling on bumpy roads. His mother nurtured Arthur to full health - at times placing him in the warming box near the family's wood burning oven.
He was raised and educated in Leonard, MN and worked at the creamery there in his youth. Arthur enlisted in the US Navy in 1952 and served four years as an engineman on the USS Nimble. On June 22, 1958, he married Geraldine Lewis in Clearbrook, MN.
Art worked as a millwright at the paper mill in International Falls, MN before moving with his family to Bemidji in 1962. He worked for 30 years as a mechanic at the Department of Transportation and finished his last years there as shop foreman.
Art shared his many talents with his church, Bemidji Covenant. He spent many hours rebuilding the church bus engine and helping remodel the church when it moved to its current location. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing - especially dark house spearing. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by a sister, Gloria Charles of Bemidji, niece Jill Charles, and nephew Calvin Charles, and his three children, Diane (Patrick) Hunke of Ottertail, MN, David (Janet) Pederson of Bemidji and Kristine (Todd) Brenna of Bemidji. Seven grandchildren; Paul (Shelby) Hunke, Ryan Hunke, Carl, Chloe and Caroline Pederson, Jason Brenna, and Andy (Sarah) Brenna. Two great grandchildren; Madison and Jackson Hunke and one more on the way.
Art was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 59 years, Geraldine Lewis Pederson and his niece Valerie Vordebruggen.
