Sandra Kay Nelson

Sandra Kay Nelson

On February 17th, Sandy ended her long, fiercely fought, battle with cancer. As a partner and CPA at Miller McDonald accounting firm, Sandy cared deeply for the communities and clients she served.

Sandy was best known for her hard work, integrity, and kindness. Sandy had an uncanny ability to remember details. Whether it was the names of clients' kids and pets, the personal stories shared with her, or the birthdays of the 50+ individuals she sent cards to each year, Sandy remembered small details about those close to her. Sandy was also an incredibly devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her daughters will miss the support and guidance that came from their daily phone conversations with her.

In addition to spending time with her family, Sandy enjoyed morning bike rides on the Paul Bunyan Trail, traveling, and spending as much time as possible at the end of her dock or in her paddle boat.

Sandy is survived by: her husband, local fishing guide, Paul Nelson; daughters Shivan (Travis) and Erica; granddaughter Kyleigh; as well as a large extended family.

A memorial lunch will be held Saturday March 18th in the LakeView Room of the Sandford Convention Center. Lunch will be served at 12:30pm with the memorial service to follow at 1:30pm.

The memorial is open all wishing to celebrate Sandy's life and honor her memory. Those unable to attend, but who wish to share memories or condolences, may send emails to:

A memorial fund (Sandy K Nelson Memorial) has been set up at First National Bank Bemidji; PO Box 670, Bemidji, MN 56619. Proceeds will go towards a memorial park bench along the Paul Bunyan Trail overlooking Lake Bemidji.
