HOCKEY: Fitzgerald competes at NHL Prospect Tournament
Former Bemidji State men’s hockey forward Gerry Fitzgerald is playing in the eight-team 2018 NHL Prospect Tournament this weekend, from Sept. 7-11, at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City, Mich.
Fitzgerald, a Minnesota Wild prospect who graduated from Bemidji State this past spring, is one of six Western Collegiate Hockey Association alumni to play in the tournament. The others include Bowling Green’s Mitch McLain (Wild) and Chris Nell (New York Rangers), Michigan Tech’s Joel L’Esperance (Dallas Stars) and Mitch Reinke (St. Louis Blues) and Minnesota State’s Zeb Knutson (Wild).
Fitzgerald finished his BSU career with 22 power-play goals, tying the team’s Division I-era record. He is 10th on the Beavers’ all-time D-I scoring list with 95 points (41g, 54a).
He has since played 16 games with the Wild’s AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild, and tallied eight points (4g, 4a) and has a plus-3 rating.
