GIRLS SOCCER: BHS wins battle of the Jacks
CLOQUET -- Just one goal was needed for the Bemidji High School girls soccer team to steal a win from Cloquet-Carlton on Thursday, as Lindsey Hildenbrand claimed the lone tally for a 1-0 Bemidji shutout.
The goal came in the 24th minute, when Hildenbrand took a pass from Alyse Stone, worked her way around a Cloquet defender and squeezed a shot by opposing goalie Graci Meagher.
Cloquet finished 17-2-1 last season, losing the Section 7A championship to North Branch before North Branch went on to lose to the eventual state champion Mahtomedi – who Bemidji lost to in the opening round in the Class A state tournament – in the state semifinals.
The home Lumberjacks of Cloquet gained momentum in the second half Thursday, but Bemidji held on to help goalie Allison Beard to her third shutout of the season.
The Jacks, still perfect with a 5-0 record, next head to Fergus Falls for a 1 p.m. game Saturday, Sept. 8, against Hillcrest Lutheran Academy.
