Sally Ann Kirkvold

Sally Ann Kirkvold, 78, of Fairbanks, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2018, surrounded by her family. Sally was born in Puposky, Minnesota on February 14, 1940, the youngest of 5 children to Selma and Harry Maher. She grew up on a farm on Lake Julia. She loved to go visit her dad at the Sanitorium that was on the lake close to home. Both parents worked there.

She married Duwayn Kirkvold on November 1, 1958, at Puposky Lutheran Church. They moved to Superior, Montana in 1964. In 1975, they moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where Duwayn would drive truck on the haul road north to Prudhoe Bay. Sally and Duwayn enjoyed many trips north to Prudhoe Bay. Sharing once in a lifetime visits with many friends and family members who had heard of their journeys north.

Sally was very active at Zion Lutheran Church through the years serving on many different committees. She had a passion for taking pictures. She was not found in many pictures, because she was always behind the camera. She was always capturing every moment. She loved her family, her flowers, her garden and her northern lights.

Sally and Duwayn lived with their oldest grand-daughter the last 2 year in Surprise, Arizona with short visits home. She underwent many treatments in her fight against cancer at the Mayo Clinic. She was called a miracle by her doctors there because she out lived the normal life expectancy for Mesothelioma by 1 years.

She was a special lady and will be greatly missed. Sally is survived by her husband, Duwayn Kirkvold; daughter, Sherry (Robert) Blake; sons Jim and Marlyn Kirkvold. Grandchildren, Jeannette (Mike) Atkisson, Shane Blake, Nicholas Blake, Heather (Keith) Nichols, Krista (Wray) Berry, Bruce (Delorian) Davids, Shawn and Cheyanne Kirkvold.
